Lunya is Catalan done right. It’s part deli (you can actually buy stuff), part restaurant, and the split makes sense because it’s all about the same thing – quality Spanish/Catalan provisions.
The food starts with cured meats and cheese. They know their stuff – these aren’t just random cuts on a plate. Jamón ibérico is handled properly, chorizo has actual character, cheese selections change and represent actual regions. Each plate has a story without needing to tell you the story; you taste it.
Beyond the plates, there’s hot food. Spanish seafood preparations, simple cooked dishes that respect what they’re made with. Pan con tomate is done right (which sounds stupid simple but most places get it wrong). Croquetas are proper, bread is decent, nothing overdone.
Drinks are Spanish wine and vermouth focused. Wine by the glass is fair pricing; vermouth pours are generous. Beer selection is Spanish mostly. They understand that this food has natural drink pairings and they get it right.
Budget £20-£30 per person for a proper meal with wine. You could do it cheaper if you’re just picking at cured meats; you could spend more if you order multiple hot dishes. It’s flexible without feeling like you’re doing it wrong either way.
Service is warm and knows the products. They’ll explain what something is without being patronising. The room is casual – part retail, part eating space, all designed to feel like somewhere the food matters more than the theatre.
Liverpool ONE location means it’s busy and convenient. Booking helps evenings but it’s the kind of place walk-ins work too because it’s not formal. Lunch is better value and quieter. The deli means you can pop in just for coffee and a pastry if you want.
