O2 Academy Liverpool at 11-13 Hotham Street, in the university area between the city centre and Lime Street station, is Liverpool’s standard stop for touring acts at the 1,500 to 1,800 capacity level. The building has operated as a music venue since the 1990s in various forms before joining the O2 Academy network. The current configuration covers the main room at full 1,800 capacity and a smaller second room used for less mainstream bookings and smaller events.

The programming covers rock, indie, pop, and hip-hop touring acts at the level that fills mid-size venues nationally. Comedy nights also feature in the calendar. The booking follows the Academy Music Group model: commercially sound choices in the mid-level touring circuit with occasional more adventurous bookings in the second room. This is not a venue with a distinctive programming identity but it is reliable for the acts it books.

The Hotham Street location is convenient for the university population – the Liverpool Student Union and Guild of Students are both within ten minutes’ walk – and well connected to the city centre by bus and on foot. Lime Street station is around twenty minutes’ walk. The surrounding area has the full range of student-district bars and takeaways for pre-show options.

The venue is fully accessible with level entry and accessible facilities throughout. Bag searches apply on entry. The cloakroom is available for bags and coats. The bar service across multiple points means queuing is manageable at peak intervals.
