Travelodge is what it is. Clean rooms, a firm bed, a small bathroom, no minibar, no room service, and a bar that closes at a sensible time. The Liverpool Central site on Whitechapel does one thing very well: it puts you in the middle of the city for less money than almost any alternative.
Whitechapel is as central as Liverpool gets. Liverpool ONE shopping is two minutes south. Liverpool Central and Moorfields stations are walking distance. The Cavern Quarter, the waterfront, Bold Street, the Albert Dock – none of them require a taxi. For a weekend trip built around seeing the city rather than sitting in your room, this works.
The rooms have been refurbished in recent years to the SuperRoom spec if you pay the upgrade – better bedding, a bigger screen, a small seating area. Worth the few extra pounds if available.
Where the trade-off hurts: no parking nearby and the Whitechapel area is busy and noisy on weekend nights. Rooms facing the street will have noise. Request a higher floor or a room facing away if you are a light sleeper.
Rates at around 50 to 70 pounds midweek are genuinely good value for the location. Book the non-flexible rate for the best price, but check the cancellation terms. Whitechapel, L1.
