Mathew Street is the beating heart of Beatles Liverpool, and the Hard Days Night Hotel sits right at the top of it in a converted Grade II listed building that started life as a fruit warehouse. The Beatles theme could easily be awful. It is not.
The artwork throughout the hotel was commissioned from artist Shannon, who spent years creating original Beatles-inspired pieces rather than just plastering the walls with photographs. The John Lennon suite is the flagship room – two floors, a grand piano, the lot. But even standard rooms have been thought about carefully.
Bar Four Fab downstairs is a proper hotel bar with decent cocktails and live music most nights. The restaurant has improved considerably in recent years. Central Library is directly opposite across North John Street, a beautiful neoclassical building worth a look even if you are not staying.
Location is genuinely central – five minutes from Liverpool Central and Moorfields stations, around the corner from Liverpool ONE shopping, easy walking distance to the waterfront. Mathew Street itself has every Beatles pub, the Cavern Club, and the Grapes where the band used to drink, all within thirty seconds of the front door.
